Pejo

Old soul in our shelter. In the summer always lazing around, moving from one corner in the shade into another. In the winter, you’ll find him in the old campervan. Many years have gone by since Pejo came to Žarkovica and he is one of those dogs we wanted to believe were ok, especially when compared to other dogs.

Over the last couple of years there were about 15 dogs in the shelter who roamed the bottom part of the shelter freely. They were the first line of defence of the shelter against sweet treats and attention – they always stole all of it! ☺

Pejo was a member of that gang. Just to be clear – he worked hard for his status. He is the shelter veteran and he has been through thick and thin ever since he arrived. The injuries on his back told us a story about a difficult life, even before the life in the shelter. The lower part of his back was burnt with acid and there has never been any hair there. With his friends Ivica and Hulk Pejo lived a life of freedom and a nice one, we like to believe. However, now it is time for Pejo to retire – to a warm soft bed instead of a campervan, for his old bones to rest a bit from everything he’s been through. Pejo is about 12 years old and is an extremely intelligent dog. Due to that old injury of his, Pejo doesn’t like being touched, except on his forehead. ☺

Up until recently Pejo was a cheerful dog who used to greet everyone wagging his tail at the shelter gate. In the last two months Pejo has retreated. He doesn’t greet visitors anymore and his tired tail is now still.

We believe Pejo is tired and we hope there is someone who will see Pejo as their friend and will make Pejo’s tail wag cheerfully again.
